Benefits of TV For Your Children

Television is the last thing anyone would want their children to get addicted to. Well, maybe if not the last and only thing, it is definitely going to be on that ‘least-favorite’ activity list for many parents. Most parents like to keep their children away from the television as much as possible, even going as far as not buying them devices and setting up rules and limits for screen time.

However, we are here to prove a point and it is the opposite of what most parents believe about television. Doing anything excessively is bad for you, and that naturally includes watching TV. However, what if we told you there is a way you can have your kids watch TV and it will be beneficial for them? How is that possible, you might ask? That is exactly what the point of this article is.

After reading this article, you will be convinced to sign up for a TV plan like TDS TV plus. In this plan, you will find a number of channels like Cooking Channel, DIY Network, and more. A good TV channel can educate your child about different things, sometimes even things they couldn’t learn about in school. So, with that over with, let’s get on with the article.

TV as A Teacher For Children

TV shows are not entirely entertainment, but they can also be educational. Shows like Sesame Street, Dora the Explorer, The Cat in the Hat, and more are specifically designed to educate children in a colorful and attractive way. This helps children retain concepts and relate them to real-life scenarios. Let’s take the example of Count Dracula from Sesame Street. Thanks to Count Dracula, children can have a creative way of learning to count.

TV as a Helper For A Child’s Intellect

As we mentioned before, educational TV shows can be super-beneficial for children. Generally, children who watch an educational show can perform better academically as they retain information at a faster pace and learn to relate and compare things quicker.

However, if a kid only excessively watches entertaining shows that do not really focus on teaching children something, they can be quite slow. It is not that they will be slower than normal students, but rather that they will not learn and pick up on things as fast.

TV as A New Experience For Children

This was also another point that was brought up briefly before. Kids tend to learn other things that they wouldn’t normally learn about in school or in their environment. For example, your child might only learn about the crocodile in name at their school, but they won’t see a real one there. They might see it in a zoo, or on TV in a nature documentary.

Additionally, in nature documentaries, you can learn much more about the lifestyle of animals than you ever would in school. And this doesn’t just apply to animals and nature documentaries, but also to anything else like sports, news, general knowledge, and so much more. Your children can learn about another language or culture all through a TV. And to be honest, that is quite awesome!

TV as A Provider Of Good Role Models For Children

Usually, people are highly influenced by celebrities or other famous figures in the media. And role models don’t necessarily have to be real-life people, rather they can be icons or animated characters as well. As a child, you might remember having an animated or real-life role model as well.

Having a role model is beneficial for a child to be able to develop their personalities and take action on what they believe. It also gives a child room to be more confident and expressive. If your child finds a role model on TV who encourages them to eat healthier and adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle, you best believe that is what they will try to do as well.

The Verdict?

So, is TV the good guy, or the bad guy? Well, for one, it most certainly isn’t on either extreme. As long as you have some control over what your child watches on TV, you can very easily use it as a good influence or aspect of their life. However, it is important to remember that children are children and at the end of the day, they require entertainment and fun, but under your supervision.

All entertainment or all work is not good for them. There needs to be a balance of activities or a balance of both things to give the child room to properly grow and flourish. We’ve all heard of “All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy”. So, of course, we don’t want anything like that.

Based on that, you can’t really say TV is 100% bad or 100% good. It is what you make it to be!
